The 'good problem' for Central Michigan at QB and what to expect come fall
Central Michigan has multiple quarterbacks returning who played in 2025, and no clear starter among the group.
Mt. Pleasant — When it comes to the quarterback position, Central Michigan isn’t set in its ways.
With three returning quarterbacks who have, at some point in their career, played meaningful snaps for the Chippewas, offensive coordinator Jim Chapin and Co. feel good about the state of the position.
“We'll figure out what we look like in August with the pieces that we have,” Chapin said in a recent interview with Mitten Football. “And every year it's a new team. It's a living, breathing organism. And so I'm excited to see this thing come into place.”
A year removed from playing four quarterbacks (for a number of reasons), the Chippewas return three of them: senior Angel Flores, senior Marcus Beamon and redshirt freshman Jadyn Glasser. And after platooning some combination of that trio with now-graduated Joe Labas in 2025, the Chippewas will be evaluating all options for the 2026 season as fall camp unfolds. Be it one or multiple quarterbacks who give CMU the best shot at winning in the eyes of the coaches, they're open to their options.
“We have a very good problem where you have three quarterbacks with game experience,” Chapin said. “And Danny Gomez did a great job this spring, too. And we're going to let those guys sort it out. And if you took a straw poll amongst the team and said, 'Who's the starting quarterback?' You'd get a lot of votes for a lot of different guys. And that's a good problem to have.”
