Broc Lowry, Bronco receivers show early signs of elevated passing game for WMU
Western Michigan targeted an improved passing game all offseason and seems to have hit the mark with an improved aerial attack early in 2026.
If Aveion Chenault runs under a deep ball early on in a 49-14 blowout vs. Monmouth, Western Michigan’s passing offense might’ve looked even more impressive.
Even as it were, Western Michigan (1-1) showed off vs. Monmouth in a win the sort of passing game the Broncos have spoken about having much of the offseason, evolving a thoroughly run-centric offense into a more balanced attack — albeit one still grounded in the run game. Lowry delivered a crisp and efficient 273 yards and three touchdowns on 20 passing attempts before giving way to backup Trey Petty early in the second half as Chenault and the other wideouts ate up Monmouth’s overmatched coverage.
