Pat Fitzgerald’s vision for new-look MSU OL in focus: ‘Get excited about moving people against their will’
The Spartans gave up TFLs on 12 percent of offensive snaps in 2025, something that must improve for this upcoming season.
East Lansing — Pat Fitzgerald had a straightforward answer to a basic question, albeit one sagging with implications that can define what the 2026 Michigan State football team looks like.
After finishing his first spring practice leading the Spartans, Fitzgerald spoke with the media and addressed how he wants the offensive lines in East Lansing to look and function while he’s the head coach.
“Five guys will operate as one heartbeat that get excited about moving people against their will,” Fitzgerald said on Tuesday.
Solving that puzzle that is Michigan State’s offensive line room is one of the biggest tasks for the coaching staff heading into the 2026 season, inheriting a group with some starting experience and infusing a bevy of transfers. It’s far too early to assess who the starting five is, Fitzgerald said, but each of the 15 practices in spring will be major opportunities for the individuals and collective unit to improve. A depth chart, though, isn't coming in the near future.
