EMU camp notes: Offensive line finding form, defense drilling down to create takeaways
The Eagles are trying to iron out the best five starters on the offensive line and feel close, and the defense is hellbent on creating takeaways.
Ypsilanti — Eastern Michigan took it relatively easy in camp practice No. 11 on Tuesday, working for a little more than two hours at Rynearson Stadium in helmets, shells and shorts as the coaching staff combats the mid-camp doldrums.
The Eagles are hitting a key juncture in camp ahead of a Week 0 game vs. Sacramento State, with the first scrimmage of this fall set for Saturday. But first, head coach Chris Creighton addressed the team after practice, running through what went well from each period, what they could learn from the two-minute period, what would come the rest of the week, and briefly lamented the death of a playground game from yesteryear, Red Rover.
“They made that illegal before you were born,” Creighton said to his gathered players.
Here are some observations from Eastern Michigan’s practice on Tuesday.
Offensive line finding best five, looks close
Saturday’s scrimmage will be a big benchmark for this group. On Tuesday, the first team appeared to be, left to right, Tyler Brumfield, Dennis Strey Jr., Nicholas Gallegos, Cole Dellinger and Elijha Payne.
