Angel Flores’ steadiness made him Central Michigan’s QB1: ‘His resume is foolproof’
Flores won out in a quarterback competition that ran, in effect, the entirety of the offseason, though Jadyn Glasser is expected to factor in.
Angel Flores is far from slow.
But it was his steady hand that won him the race to be Central Michigan’s starting quarterback for the season opener next Saturday at New Mexico.
The Chippewas named Flores the starting quarterback on Thursday, first reported by ESPN, after an offseason’s worth of competition between him, third-year Jadyn Glasser and fellow fifth-year quarterback Marcus Beamon.
“Angel was consistent,” offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jim Chapin told Mitten Football in a brief phone interview. “He's one of our leaders, but also he performed at a really high clip. And so we charted a ton of different metrics for our quarterbacks, and a lot of those contribute to what we call success. And he was the one that when it was all — when the dust settled, with all the data that we collected over the long term, we felt like that he was the guy that had performed the best. And so we were excited about that.
“Obviously, it's an incredibly difficult decision.”
Glasser is expected to factor in offense, still, according to the coaches, playing a notable share of snaps.
